Cleanouts

When people downsize and make the move to a new home, be it a retirement community, assisted living, or a smaller home, there are normally a large number of possessions, furniture, collections, everyday living items, that need to find a new home.

Many of our clients have been in their homes for 40 – 60 years and you can accumulate “a lot of stuff” during that time that is no longer needed or wanted and is also one of the things that tends to hold people back from making the transition to a new home. What do you do with all of the yard tools, woodworking tools, all of the kitchen dishes, bakeware, etc.

What do you do with the 3 bedrooms sets that you don’t need because you are going from a 4 bedroom home to a one bedroom apt?

Peoplehelpers have developed a process where the ideal situation is to move you to your new home after determining the things that will work, and that you want or need to take with you, and then the rest of the items remaining in the home need to find a new home also.

Our process includes:

  1. Making sure you have everything that you want in your new home from your old home.
  2. Have family or friends determine if there is anything that they may want. Arrangements can be made for local delivery using our trucks, or to have shipping long distance.
  3. We would then go through the home and determine the best options for what is remaining.

We would determine if items could be sent to auction or consignment so that some of the expense could be recouped for the cost of the cleanout.

Then we would determine what could be donated to a charity of your choice to re-purpose as much as possible.

Mattresses can be recycled in a couple of different ways, either by actual recycling or given to the LAKOTA Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Electronics such as old Tube TV’s, computer monitors & CPU’s, refrigerators, freezers, etc. by law need to be recycled which is an additional cost. There is also a big fine for disposing into your trash. Then there is normally items that require trash disposal and we provide that service also with our own trash trailer. If there is a large amount then we can help to arrange a dumpster.

HazMat recycling is also required by law to be properly disposed of which includes yard chemicals, paint, certain automotive products, and industrial chemicals. There is also a cost involved and a huge fine if you are caught disposing into your trash.

Food items and cleaning supplies are distributed to food banks and charity organizations, as well as medical equipment which is given to loan closets or to people who need it.

When this process is finished, your home will be empty and ready for sale or rent. The process can take a week or sometimes a couple of months depending how much is in the home and your schedule.
